How to Adjust Your Violin Bridge When Changing Strings

• Watch the bridge: Changing strings will pull the bridge forward toward the fingerboard.

• Straighten the bridge: Use two fingers and both thumbs on opposite sides to gently pull it back.

• Check the alignment: Make sure the bridge aligns perfectly with how it was originally fitted.

• Lubricate the grooves: Rub a little dry bar soap into the string grooves on top of the bridge.

• Ease the friction: The soap helps the strings slide smoothly through the grooves without dragging the bridge forward.

• Always change one string at a time, tune it and then check the bridge and pull it back if needs be.
